IDIOCRACY _ STATE OF MIND. WHAT?!

I have spent the past 4 days in London, and whizzing off to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow. Paid several visits to Canary Wharf, the financial district that I have fell in love with it! When I grow up, I have resolute aspirations to work there. I know it sounds cheesy, but hey don't blame me for liking a perfect mixture location of commerce and retail.

Perfect for a hangout, perfect for a fashion or food fix, perfect for business, you name it! Not only it is a recession biter (it emerged stronger than ever from the 08' crisis), it has also proved an attraction for teens! on my last visit i was surprised on how many uniformed students were there! (although the men in suits still outnumber them).

Just a few snapfacts of the place from wikipedia. (It's cool because....)
*UK's leading developing and traditional financial centre.
*Contains 3 of UK's tallest buildings. Cititgroup Centre, Canada Square, and 8 Canada Square. *Centers around world leading firms headquarters, HSBC, Credit Suisse, Clifford Chance, Goldman Sachs, and FTSE!
*Has an underground shopping centre! i never cease to avoid Zara on each of my visit. (oh my)

t's the last day before school reopens, or really, before boarders return, and I feel quite hollow from the play and leisure from this weeks' holiday! How can really be someone be sick of a holiday? When you sit around doing nothing all day and forced to do huge amounts of work. It sure gives you huge sense of fulfilled responsibility, but you just don't feel satisfied! anyway, my posts gotta stop being so pessimistic and negative.

MMmm so what so positive has happened during this week on the course of my life?

Monday - Went to London to stay with Minh and Quang's cousin. Thien, though a small residence, but what a day! I lost ten pounds in a 3 hour intense poker session. I should've known i wasn't born for that sedentary sport. (My best hand was double Ace x)

Tuesday - Woke up extremely late. and we spent the day playing tennis in a freezing weather which I admit I didnt perform well. After lunch we toyed around then dinner was a memorable event. Thien (cousin's name) took us to one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the City, and i ate frog as a starter! wasn't bad. Guess what we did after that? more poker.

Wednesday - We went to CANARY WHARF, London's financial centre to errr. shop. We felt so queer and seperated there because men and women in suits and formal blouses were patronizing every single shop and cafe, while we in our hoodies and puffy jackets were innocently just strolling around without a purpose. lol AT night, ah we were the spectators (digitally) of the epic CHAMPIONS LEAGUE match between.............

This is a video on something that an MIT post-graduate student has build upon over years. It's still in stages of progress but at this stage the basic utilities can be made known through obvious demonstrations.

AGain, this shows the innovative tech industry that America has been spearheading. I think how technology advances is played out on a scale in the portability pioneers makes out of technology, how small you can shrink a laptop to, how connected the world becomes through fb (again, to make the world seem smaller), how convenient it is to access information anywhere.

The flight from AirAsia, needless to say was bumpy and not exactly the most comfortable flight, but at least there were no crashes where i expected them. One major dissapointment wsa the removal of the touch panel screen in front of each passenger seat! (they replaced it with a cushion =.=)

I just realized that native Malaysians aren't Malay! D

Does everyone here thinks Malays are the original race on this country who first set foot, thereby claiming that they are superior to others? That sure is deemed evident by what the government does, pouring huge mounts of aid and $ to Malays. However my trip to Taman Negara, meeting these 'authentic' Malay tribes(above), sure did give me a whole new 'immigrant' image of the Malays.

Looks like they aren't so different from us after all.....

Sense a big difference in the difficulty among the four subjects i'm doing? Official exams are daunting, its just 2 weeks away. I found out many wesleyans are going to do A-levels. Well here's a taste of what some of the questions to come, not that to dissuade you guys, but maybe to provide an insight of whats really ahead.

Maths, science and econs are quite popular from what I've found out, so here's what I think. The syllabus entails much similarity with form 5,4 even 3 malaysian syllabus(in the case of mathematics) therefore it won't be completely gobbledygook to new intakes.

Maths should be a free A for most wesleyans, science really depending on your grip on how much you already forgotten, haha. Econs seems simplistic and comprehensible in the earlier chapters but it goes much deeper as questions on a topic progresses. Again, it really depends how you find it. I personally think Econs A's within reach of a couple of metres, but beware of the deep, spiraling traps in disguise that lie beneath the short reach.

It's been long...since I have returned to this blog. I tend to be inconsistent much with my postings. Oxford's life is bustling with much work, yes it is an excuse. but hey, care or not, i'm back with a post!

Yesterday, I stared, with a heavy heart, at graduation pictures of peers from my ex-school Wesley Methodist School, bringing an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia. I wish i were there! I had never felt such a longing to be somewhere, sometime. It's been 3 years, I've dissected myself from a school that I was extremely connected with, a school where I built on friendships with most of my high school peers, a school which taught me many harsh lessons on values, life, and beliefs. I feel really happy for my friends who are moving on to college, a more challenging tier of academia, graduating from adolescence, moving on to adulthood. Cool! Wish I was there to move with you guys.

The smiles in those pics really must mean something to celebrate. Unfortunately for me, I have nothing so much to smile about now, perhaps in two years time, perhaps there might be frowns. Mmm. A Level's is a really unpredictable monster that gnaw away your wanted grades the very moment you think you've got them. Exclude maths, physics, bio, and every other boring state that boringly qualifies in the 'boring science' category. Life seems a drag over here, and I'm feeling the immense pressure as january exams draws near. Talk about nostalgia @@

Observing and interpreting can be painful. Especially when what you see is opposed to how you see life unfolds, and not necessarily imperative in your favorable view of life. *cringes

Friends and family injects much fun into one's life. What would one do without them? If only all family and friends wouldnt have conflicting opinions and tense arguments on one's life and decisions, all would be good. Anyway, who am I to judge?.......

It is disappointing to see how malaysia's democracy is structured through a very racial framework. In making economic decisions, appeal to other races is always taken into consideration. Again this is the whole debate on religion vs. economy development. Education and the govt. corruption are just some of the many problems that plague malaysia.....I believe malaysia will do better with much liberal and open-minded leaders like dr.mahathir. i didnt know he was the one who introduced gas to power taxis as a more efficient solution to govt. deficits and the economy! bravo? haha. nwy, enough with dull and silly talk! on a totally different note...........

i never actually realised nor appreciated bollywood films. i guess its a stereotyped instill in me that indian dances and music is unappealing. however. dhooom really pried my eyes open to this vibrant, talented industry. a pulsating entrêe to the movie. Hrithik Roshan has the moves!

THE HANGOVER

I watched it in NZ not very long ago, and i found it very surprisingly good comedy, fo

r a low-budget film (you can tell by the appalling realism of props haha). It has a quite a number of funny moments, and unlike those films where they show all the humor in a 60 second clip, this movie hurls many comedic situations at you shot after shot that will leave you cracking up non-stop. ^^

Much male, stereotypical humor, but quite many of females friends who watched it found it surprisingly amusing as well. Just take it as a film that will offend all sexes equally. =D People who have experienced a hangover will definitely under stand and enjoy the movie on a better scale. HAH. XD

Justin Bartha returns from National Treasure to be casted as the main role(kindof), Heather Graham from a very tight filming schedule (shes done 4 films this year), Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis whom all performed equally exceptional. Also, a cameo from Mike Tyson! lol

I might, be thrown lot of criticism by those who will find this kind of humor unappealing and low for their tastes for comedies but hey, just know what you're gettin into when you see this XD

Last night, I caught up with a couple of friends in the weekend and we went to this lake in the evening for some eeling. Eeling=fishing for eels.

Here's how eeling goes: you put out smelly meat on the banks, attracting eels to the smell, it takes time, but its worth it. Once after an hour or so, an eel comes along and you stab it with a TRIDENT. Or should i say fivedent. 'Cause it had five ends. =D

We got only an eel, but the anticipation and patience paid off for excitement, and it was a great night. Weeman was the man of the night, having caught the only eel. Go weeman! lol

Two days ago, I shot my first RIFLE BULLET in my life. I didnt think I would ever TOUCH a real gun ever, but now i got more than i bargained!

I went over to my homestay's friend's house, Dave, and he took me and gus over to the hills to hunt some turkey. We sat at the back of his truck and after a very uncomfortable rocky trip we saw a herd of turkeys gathering at the top of a steep hill. Dave asked two of us boys to go chase them down but when we reached up there the damned turkeys flew offf like couple of paddocks away to another farm. The wind was quite strong and it took themm quite far. So......HARD LUCK for us!

so we went back and Dave set up tin can targets about half a km away and we tried shooting our hearts out. The gun's called a .22, got a pretty cool scope and fires a soft paaak when you pull the trigger. Here's it.

Introducing....The Ruins! I saw it quite a while ago and the release date in US was april 2008 so its like 2 months old.

Plot: Four tourists travel goes on an Mexican holiday and stumbles upon a German who urges the tourists to visit an ancient Mayan temple. Upon arrival they meet unfriendly locals and their lives change forever.

This is not your average clichéd horror *cough* Prom Night *cough* (XD howie), but it delivers a new way to terrorize the audience. OK, I admit there weren't that many scares (maybe 1 that I jumped at) but the film keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. The acting is superb and their emotions shine through, the death scenes were fairly gory and very depressing but the ending only slightly tips me off.
I heard the book had a different and better ending so if you'd be able to read the book before seeing the film I recommend you do it. The film's kinda disturbing, gory, well-acted one, and i reckon it's the best horror film of the new century, with an original piece of cinema that achieves the status of an instant classic.

Its been long since I have logged in! Weekends has been so busy with work and now next week its the mid term exams!! Its so ironic that I have my exams right now and you guys are relaxing over the holidays with the relief of exams ending. Mmm And we have like four days of holiday right now and when we go back to school its straight into exams. So wierd eh? In mas its exams first, then holidays. Ah I expected it to be much more different here anyway.

Somehow, I see familiarities between the students here and the students back at wms. In the aspect of who we hangout with differing from different classes, the cool, the average, the lame.

The cool guys are like the people who goes out to parties much, good at sport, into skateboarding or mountainbiking. And are mainly studs. The average class, including me and most of the asians, are plainly study people and doesnt go anywhere out of the school unless asked by friends. And involved heavily in music activities. the LAME, are those who get dissed much by people, mostly large in size, dumb and incapable of
sport, and often neglected.

Its not my judgement but of how it seems like around the school. Its sad seeing some people eating lunch alone, or sitting by himself in class, or when trying to talk to someone he gets spat in the face. Sometimes you just think, why dont we talk to that lonely guy over there? I'm grateful that the guys here are friendly and happy because i've made many friends, asians/kiwis. Some even plan to come visit my country at the end of the year! =D

Music and Movies

Korean music is actually quite good, especially like those rapping ones. They have nice beats and melody, unlike black rappers' music eg 50 cent kanye west, etc etc.go look up any of mc sniper songs on youtube, you'll like it.

Korean movies are funny too, if you see comedies. They mainly copy american pie's theme, like the movie circulates around a college then theres lots of teens fooling around. But the things they do are much different. go on limewire search, search for 'sex is zero' or 'who sleeps with her', they're funny korean movies.

Lighting a FIREPLACE!

Today I lit my very first fireplace! Facsinating thing, the fireplace is. You burn wood and newspaper inside and the whole room gets warm. Decided to make a post about it. haha.

First we like put alota newspaper and burned it, and put a few PINECONES in, and when it burns fiercely, we put in the firewood. Then theres this lever where you control the amount of air in and out. We want big fire, push lever down, small fire? lever up. haha. Interesting isn't it?

In case readers might not know who am I talking about, here's a picture of her.

A jolly short girl whom I was same class with since form 1w, I began to notice her and her close friend Emelia when they started to engage more with Howard during form 2, who was and is MY close friend. lol

Then, we started to talk in groups during free time and we started to get to know each other better....Times then were so relaxingly sweeet. haha. Sinyee then became one of my close friends and Emelia being my pet daughter. I forgotten how though, I just vaguely remember it was thru a friendster comment....aye melia? =D

A pity as it was, Howard and I had to leave for Australia and New Zealand respectively. Our dear class and teacher made farewell folios for both of us, and I'm quite appreciate all their hard work for us! I'm not sure whether howard is though. lol. jk. I'm sure he is. Another reason for the thankyous is how she has been my 'facial consultant' all these times, helping me realise not to wash my face with a handsoap, but just with the facial cleanser. -A pic of my frens house whom i went for a nights stay yesterday. Pretty flashy house....with two computers with two webcams. Last night we went out to the fields and met other asians around napier and hastings to play a type of game that played only at night. "Laser Gun" was it. lol no idea what game issit aye? It was kinda lame so im not bothered to say how it is played.

-And as sinyee requested a pic of sung-hyuncho that she is so obsessed with. XD

-Some pictures on the last day of school....where evrybody can't wait to go home! and where everybody took all their luggage home except the international students. Sigh. -I hadda leave my bag school clothes, other things that i didn't need for the two weeks holidays. We put our luggage up in the attic btw, its like a pulldown ladder leading to the roof upstairs and its dark and all. Cool attic!

Holidays! Another period of which i go to another different homestay....and suffer different things. And i'm listening to GreenDay's HOliday! A colloquial phrase often used: Time just flies so fast aye? It seems just a few days but 11 weeks and a term has gone past just like that.

And I just want to wish everyone good luck in tomorrow's sports day! I'll be rooting for YELLOW~! Go zhuowei emelia xiauwei melvyn and all d other yellow sportwo/men!

Uncomfortabilities of my homestay for this holidays

-I have to share a small room with my friend, of which the drawers and cupboards are full of his clothes. Which leaves me to store my things just in the suitcases. Not good at all!

-53kbps speed internet connection. Another words, dial up. It breaks after like every 3 mins so i can't upload nor download anythhing! Which means slow slow slow msn chatting and blogging.

Many things happened during the end of term 1, I'll just post one or two. XD

Music

-Believe it or not, I'm on a music tour to the US and UK! My teacher said they were lacking violinist so since i was qualified enough, (over grade 3)i was chosen. I'm not boasting that i'm good or anything, but I"ve always wanted to go to US and visit hollywood which we will!

-You guys may be thinking, oh its just a tour to other countries, its nothing, I could go if i wanted i just have to play an instrument.

-But this is going to tour on the best music schools in UK and US, and if it'll be quite dearly if this opportunity is missed. The cost is simply huge, a whopping 6000 nz dollars. And my parents are still finding ways to finance it. Here's a picture of our itinery next year at usa and uk. and another hearing to the piano. haha

Notice Day 13, where we'll be going to Hollywood and Universal Studios. I can't wait to see how the famous english movies are produced there! and mayb spot a few CELEBRITIES too. haha

-Last three weeks in march we had the Hawkes Bay Band Festivals hosted in our school. I wasn't playing in any band taking part, because bands that took part mainly had woodwinds and percussions in it. So i helped with the setup! I got to see many other schools like Freyberg Senior High School, Fielding Brass, Concord Symphonic Band (our own school band), and Bay Cities Symphonic Band(adults and old people lol.) perform in a way very different from an orchestra.

-One day i shall bring a saxophone back to malaysia and show you how diff it sounds. I shall posts pics later in the week.

Sports

-Winter sports! i'm playing soccer and badminton. I went for a hawkes bay badminton trials last week for U-17 and i got in! can you believe that? Obviously the standard of badminton here is low. haha. Contradicting myself. Here's a pic of me with a random mixed doubles partner. And for soccer i'm in the 4th XI. Means i'm in the fourth best team, out of five. haha.

HaPPY EaSTER EVERYonE!!

Apparently it is a big issue in my school and we had a 1 hour long chapel on the occasion.

-So here I am, staying in a homestay again. A different one this time. The family who's hosting me is international too, from England. Thats why their house is lacking of furniture and line less. Yes, that means NO COMPUTER. At least theres a piano for me to play and my own mp3 to listen to. XD

-I have been taking french classes lately and saw few of the laminated things the school put around. Some has something to do with career centred, some has to do with french translations. I thought it was pretty interesting and wanted to share it here.

Yesterday was athletics sports and i did really bad........but i seen incredible performances by the students. If i had a camera i would taken pics but its NOT ALLOWED....stupid aye? I took part in all events...(all the students has to neaway)and i got 2 for 400m....got thru 2 rounds of high jumps...and 3 for long(there was this guy who could jump 5.3 crazy). and 2 for 3rd for 100m hurdles.....and others...100,400,800,javelin,discus....i did really bad. Saddos.. =( The systems on how people are sorted out in categories is like this

-We have athletics standards, everybody does all events, their throw lengths, run times are all recorded. Points are given according to their distances.

-Then top six fastest/furthest are put in to first grade. Second top six put into second. And so on.

-There are 24 grades all together, 1grade the fastest guys, 24 the slowest. I was d 14-16 grades for running events. =D

There's this dance...not much of a dance, kinda fierce and no-nonsense thing, called the HAKA, which is like the pride of newzealands culture, and is performed on important occasions like sports day, concerts, or a football match, even a funeral. I had to learn it, part of the rule and we have like a dayboys vs. boarders haka match...and i gotta admit, its like really dominating and kinda owns malaysia's dances...go see it on youtube and myb u'll get an idea what i mean. I must thank mdm kaithri her drilling of drawing anatomies of bodies and structure in our practical books because its now proving to be useful in my science classs.......where like our teacher ask us to draw a electrolysis apparatus with picture given, and the whole class goes AWWW!! NO SIR COME ON..i'm like this is nothing man(compared to what mdmkaithri gave us to draw)then the next day 90% of d class didn't do their work cept' me and 2 guys....=.= this school ain't that brainy hahah............there's six subjects i take alltogether, accouting, economics, esol, english, maths, and science. ESOL means English for Speakers of Other Languages. LOll i like speak english as first language in my country and here, i'm wasting one subject for more english training. what i do for d subject

WEEKENDS are pretty boring......its like 10.30am brunch, then u got all the free time until 5.30pm.

Today and yesterday i had hilarious sports sessions. first was yesterday's volleybal training session....(for sports team i got in to the tennis and volleyball team, for winter i'm playin soccer and badminton).
- During volleyball, there was one return that was goin towards me.....i screwed up and hit the ball wide. One of the guys, TeArepa, said 'Chin! don't worry bout it.....just hold your hands together and set it up. I got an idea! y don't you just chin it? I'll show you.' then everyone's like 'yea! chin it!' and cuz there was no teacher...everybody was fooling around using their chins to return the balls and hit it up unto the air....i just roolled my eyes..=.=

-Today i was playing RUGBY with some of my newz friends.......(funny all of my asian friends don't play outdoor sports, except one the korean)..it was kinda rough and stupid for me, cause it was my first time...my friends taught me abit about d rules, then we started a game...Reid(one of the players) kicked the ball up and i caught it and started running....Then suddennly someone tackled me from behind...and i was like fell on the gr0und...allmost out of breath..had to rest for a while. Then afterwards when i cont. the 2nd time i got the ball, this guy was like chasing me and pulling my shirt...i tried running away but this guy's hand was strong and RIPPED my SHIRT Right off! it was like a reebok expensive shirt..and it was teared..i decided to quit and head back to my dorms for a game of table tennis...=.=

Rules here r pretty strict tho. To wear your own clothes during weekends or after school u hafta do eight hours of any service.(sweeping, cleaning, weeding) i did like one hour of weeeding and my back was aching like shit and my hand bit bleeding and dirty...HARD aye? neaway i completed my hours after two weeks...did abt one hour everyday. The computer rules are like shit too. Websites like friendster, bebo, myspace or even gaming websites are blocked. You can't even access your own yahoo mail...so the skol gives u an email and you email ppl with tat address. Kinda Dumb.

Ppl are kinda wierd too. I have teachers/students looking almost like hollywood stars. There's one teacher who looks bit like diane kruger...and one EXACTLY like sean bean...i was like isn't that boromir from lordoftherings? my friend said, no thats mr. rogers head of swimming department. =.= There's john terry lookalikes too....WIEEERRD

Thats it...gotta head back to school, can only stay for one hour in downtown...another one of d stupd rules....CiaoZ!

New Zealand..........totally different..of course manyyyy surpriising thgs and ppl.

d school is called lindisfarne college..in a town called Hastings.

There are 15 international students.........whom four i have allready friends with. ONe is a taiwanese, two are koreans, and one new caledonian. The sport here is incredibly emphasising...as EVERYONE Has to participate. Wooo first there's the swimming sports, which like everyone swims on a normal day to get point for their own houses. (Btw I"m AIDAN red house! haha but there's no yellow, jz green, black red and blue). Then the best gets pick to swim on a special day......Then there's a athletics standards........which everyone has to participate in ALL events. I did good only in d 100m and long jump........gett 12.3secs and 4.7m respectively. Javelin and Discus was totallly different and i got a sucking 14m and 16m for each of thme. a form 2 guy could throw to 30m!

However...this school regards asians as brains of the worlds and shits of the athletism. =.= I thought this school was like veryholy and strict with rules, but once i entered my dorm i hear ppl swearing everywhere on the while plying ping-pong...yea there's one in our dorm so pretty much i play pingpong EVERYDAY. Even the newcaledonian guy who doens't speak english at all, now 90% of his english is swearing cuz its what he and everyone hears all the time.

The academics here's kinda same in malaysia.......they seperate the stupid and the clever...i was placed in the low class of every subject...so i end up learnign form 3 syllabus in maths and science....=.= I'm learning like pythgoras theorum in maths and metals and nonmetals in MATHS and SCiencE. HAIHZZZZZ

MUSIC's pretty nice....i'm in the jazz band for piano....AND a orchestra with the HASTINGS GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL. Girls there are not bad all.......having their uniform quite revealing as its summer. lol

WEATHER- i haven't bath for 2 days cuz everytime i wake up and walk in open air...its like in genting highlands....below 10degrees....and everytime i shower, i walk out shivering because the air outside so cold, even inside the dorms.....Swimming sports was the worse.....i had to walk around for 6 hours topless in cold air in and out of the WATER. i only had a towel to warm myself.....

I'm posting this on the day I"m leavin Malaysia.....for NewzealanD

And I started this blog as for companying my friends gajoon n brian also just started a blog themselves.

I'm leavin malaysia at six, having a seven hour flight over there. Just the precise duration of wesley's school hours i think? ahha

So....so long my friends, i'll miss allofyou of course and i'll TRY ta update my blog everyday in Nz, as to tell you guys how is it like studying there in a SINGLE SEX school.
